Realtime Worlds Solidifies Commitment to Gamers by Choosing Internap
Internap Provides the Engine that Powers Realtime Worlds as It Promises Gamers The Ultimate Online Experience™
ATLANTA, May 29, 2009 — Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), a global provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, today announced the signing of Realtime Worlds, a leading independent video game developer and publisher, to a three-year agreement for services supporting the launch of its first online game: APB (All Points Bulletin). Realtime Worlds will be using a combination of Internap’s Performance IP™, Content Delivery Network (CDN), premise-based route-optimization technology and international data centers to support its rapidly growing business — one increasingly focused on the online gaming sector.
“Ramping up thousands of concurrent online users worldwide is no simple task,” said Realtime Worlds Vice President of Online Operations Rob Rice. “Doing so requires connectivity services proven to be reliable and robust. Internap stood out from the crowd because it offers a unique solution of intelligent, route-optimized IP and CDN distribution, combined with expertly managed data center facilities in locations ideal for mission-critical distribution to our global audiences.”
The Realtime Worlds team has a history of creating some of the world’s best-selling video games, including the global hit franchises Crackdown, Lemmings and Grand Theft Auto. The company’s latest release and first online game, APB, is a city-based community game where players choose between playing criminals or enforcers in pursuit of thwarting their crimes. “As avid game players, we believe the future lies in online gaming. Persistent worlds with hundreds of thousands of players will offer an unrivalled experience that action gamers have yet to enjoy. We have an innovative concept and unique technology that will deliver new possibilities to the online game market,” said Rice. “Our relationship with Internap solidifies our commitment to becoming a world-class online game publisher.”
“Internap has proven once again it has a strong solution for companies requiring their content to traverse the public Internet with split-second speed,” said Randal Thompson, Vice President of Global Sales at Internap. “Online game publishers know they cannot risk players experiencing latency, jitter or lag during online game play. Our Managed Internet Route Optimizer, patented architecture used in both our IP and CDN services, provides our customers with 100 percent uptime guarantees. Online game publishers understand how important it is to provide users with The Ultimate Online Experience. They recognize Internap as the company with the unique service package able to deliver on that promise.”
About Internap’s patented Managed Internet Route Optimizer™ (MIRO)
Internap’s MIRO technology monitors the performance of every major Internet backbone, intelligently routing traffic across the best path to provide faster and more reliable content and data delivery than traditional routing methods. The Internap route-control technology considers path characteristics like latency, packet loss, route stability and congestion when making routing decisions. This technology continually analyzes the traffic situation on each Internet backbone. Decisions are made dynamically and automatically to account for network performance changes, without the need for manual intervention. Advanced analytics are used to probe and benchmark all known points on the Internet through each bandwidth carrier and continuously adjust the routes that the content uses to reach the end-user.
