Designing a Sustainable Data Center

Designing a sustainable data center requires careful planning to incorporate the right amount of “green” to meet owner requirements.

For a sustainable data center, a sustainable building, we’ll look at water consumption, we’ll look at materials inside the building that are being used, where the materials come from, how they’re shipped.

All of that is relevant to the design, not only achieving high performance, but how does it fit into the overall basis of design? How does it fit into the budget within the project?

As we know, there are different levels of green. There’re different levels of energy reduction. But a sustainability consultant, like we have at Morrison Hershfield, should be able to assist a client in finding the optimal point for the design. How much green should be incorporated into the design? And does it meet the design intent and the owner project requirements?
